DIRECTORS

Prof. Dr. Maria Cuartero Botia

Maria Cuartero was born in Murcia (Spain) where she conducted her BSc in Chemistry and MSc in Advanced Chemistry at the University of Murcia (Spain). In 2014, she moved to the University of Geneva (Switzerland) for a postdoctoral stage in the group of Prof. Eric Bakker (2014-2017). Since 2018, she has developed her independent scientific career specialising in Electroanalysis applied to health and environmental fields, Marie Curie fellow, followed by her position as Assistant Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm (Sweden).

Her innovative ideas have been funded with one of the most prestigious grants in Europe, the ERC Starting Grant, to research the development of new fundamental concepts in Electroanalysis. Last year, she was named full professor by UCAM in November 2022 and awarded with the ChemoSensors 2022 Young Investigator Award.

Prof. Dr. Gaston A. Crespo

Gaston A. Crespo was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) where he studied for a Chemistry Degree at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). In 2005, he moved to the University of Rovira I Virgili at Tarragona (Spain)  to conduct both a MSc and a PhD degree in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience.  His specialization in nanotechnology and electrochemistry allowed him to work as a postdoctoral assistant at Prof. Eric Bakker’s group at the University of Geneva (Switzerland).

In 2017, he got the tenure track at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and was promoted to Professor in 2020. A year ago, he co-founded the UCAM-SENS, and he was appointed as full professor at UCAM.
